Challenge
Our task was to educate, inspire and entertain an audience in a photorealistic journey immersing the audience into deep water, utilising the latest generation of Oculus Rift technology (developed for gaming), and take the viewer on a 360° journey unlike any other.
They say that every 10 seconds you need to change direction or switch up the 3D environment to keep the viewer entertained within a headset. Challenge accepted.

Approach
Opening with a helicopter flight over the sea, we created a deep dive, (right out of the helicopter) down to the very bottom ocean floor, passing beautiful coral reefs and a shipwreck, to explore subsea production before finally rising to a Shell platform, all within 3 minutes. A narrator highlighted innovative Shell technologies and emphasised the commitment to safety and respect for the marine environment.
Graphical animated elements and a soundscape brought an extra visual dimension to the experience, which was presented on these VR headsets and high-def headphones, set within the comfort of a series of egg chairs. -
Results
The results were a completely captivated audience, experiencing storytelling in a completely new and unique way (at the time). this allowed undivided attention to inform the audience in a beautiful way. The animated 360 experience was noted as an extraordinary journey and the knowledge retention was profound as attendees could recall facts easily, making an interesting way to inform and interact.
