Hi

Hi, I’m Robyn Spencer—Design Director, Art Director, and Digital Creative - living and working in Sydney, Australia, with my wonderful family: my partner and our two young sons.

My creative journey began in a small surf-town high school, where I fell in love with graphic design, tech drawing, painting, and illustration. That passion led me to a Bachelor of Graphic Design – Visual Communication and straight into my first digital ad agency job in Sydney. Moving closer to my dad, I quickly found my stride in the industry, working through the rise of Y&R and M&C Saatchi as two of Australia’s top creative agencies. I transitioned from design to art direction, embracing the role of digital creative on Telstra and Optus accounts—back when Flash was still king.

With an urge for adventure, I set my sights on Paris, France, where I discovered a whole new world of beauty, craft, and class. As the first Kiwi with an Australian accent many had met, I somehow convinced BETC Euro RSCG (now BETC FullSix) to take a chance on me.

Nearly five years later, a weekend trip to London turned into an unexpected career leap when I was offered a role at Imagination London. Leading a small team on the Global Team, I worked across markets in Europe and the South Pacific, eventually heading up the experiences for global festivals. Those years were filled with little sleep, high-adrenaline trips, and countless projects shaping new event experiences. After two thrilling years of high-vis, sound booths, and airports, the next adventure called—this time, in the United States.

After settling in Los Angeles, I quickly advanced to Associate Creative Director at the experiential agency Spinifex Group. I had the privilege of working with incredible people on global brands like Honda, Acura, IBM, Lexus, Elton John, and more. Collaborating with sister agency George P. Johnson, we created extraordinary experiences at major events like CES and the International Auto Show.

In December 2018, after more than 8 years abroad, I returned to Sydney. I spent an incredibly creatively diverse time freelancing at agencies such as Imagination Sydney, Spinifex Sydney, CHE Proximity, and ARQ, until the onset of Covid-19. That’s when I joined Start Beyond, a creative-tech start-up in Surry Hills. There, my team and I worked on groundbreaking 4D Virtual Reality experiences with pass-through cameras—just before Meta Quest and Apple Vision emerged. We also completely revamped the brand’s visual communication and website. On a personal note, we were lucky enough to welcome our first child into the world during this time.

Seeking more experiential creativity, I moved to Grumpy Sailor, another start-up, where we passionately pitched - and seemingly won - almost everything we set our hearts on. Our work ranged from creating the FIFA Women’s World Cup experience to spearheading state-funded community spaces and projects.

Since then, we’ve been blessed with a second child, completing our little family, and I’ve continued to work as a freelance Design Director & Creative.
